Michael William Bernarde was born on November 14, 1989 in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. Mr. Bernarde grew up in Sussex, Wisconsin and played football both on the offensive line and defensive line. Bernarde attended MSU Mankato as an undergrad from 2008-2012 and majored in History with a minor in coaching. During his undergrad Bernarde was a part of the MSU football team as an offensive lineman starting his junior and senior years. He began his coaching career in the spring of 2014 as the assistant offensive line coach and then took over as the tight ends coach in the spring of 2015.

The Macias collection consists of an audio DVD, a video DVD, and a biographical form for an oral history interview conducted between Macias, Paul Allen, and Daardi Sizemore in 2015. In this interview, Macias talks about his career at Minnesota State University as Wrestling Coach.
The oral history audio and video DVDs cover the same interview. The video DVD cuts off at the 35:00 minute mark and the audio DVD contains the entire interview.
This oral history interview was conducted as part of the Tell Your MSU Story Oral History Project conducted by the Southern Minnesota Historical Center at Minnesota State University, Mankato.

The Jeanne D. Lundheim collection consists of an audiocassette, a CD duplicate of the audiocassette, and transcript of an oral history interview conducted between Lundheim and Victoria J. Van Duyn during the fall of 1988. Lundheim worked as a foreign language teacher from 1952 to 1986. In the interview, she focused on the changes that occurred during her career as a librarian, English, and French teacher at Central High School in South Minneapolis between 1952 and 1982 when the school closed. Lundheim discussed the community around Central, teachers unions and strikes, administrators, foreign language teachers, and more broadly educational changes in terms of pedagogy, student behavior, and the expectations of teachers.
This oral history interview was conducted as a requirement for the graduate level Educational Foundations course entitled History of Education in American Culture at Mankato State University in Mankato, Minnesota.

David Engen was born June 4, 1968, in Fridley, Minnesota. Engen graduated from high school and then attended Anoka-Ramsey Community College. He then attended Mankato State University from 1988 to 1990 where he majored in speech communication and business administration and was a member of the forensics team. After graduation, Engen entered the workforce for a short while and then attended Auburn University and received a master’s degree in 1992. Engen finished his education at Bowling Green State University where he received his doctorate degree in 1995. Engen has taught at Minnesota State University, Mankato since 2002. In this interview, Engen talks about his decisions to attend college and graduate school, his experiences as a student and as a faculty member at Minnesota State Mankato, and faculty members that stand out.

Bryan Schmid was born on October 16, 1988 in Fresno, California. He then moved to Menasha, Wisconsin where he attended Menasha High School and played football and graduated in 2007. He then decided to come MSU and play football where he was a defensive end and earn playing time in all 4 years at MSU. Bryan Schmid has been coaching the defensive line at MSU since 2010. Coach Schmid is married and now lives in Mankato with his family. Coach Schmid earned his bachelor’s degree from Minnesota State in Sport Management in 2010 and completed his master’s degree in Sport Management in 2013. During the interview he tried to provide a good overview of what MSU Football was all about and what the team’s daily life is like. He was able to give a very detailed description of how the football team works.

Ryan Schlichte was born on November 25, 1996 in Mankato, Minnesota. Mr. Schlichte has lived in Mankato his entire life. He attended Mankato West High School where he played football and baseball. Schlichte led the Mankato West football team to a state title during his time as the starting quarterback. Mr. Schlichte started attending Minnesota State University, Mankato in the fall of 2015 and majors in Social Studies Education. William R. Bernhagen was born September 11, 1940 in Appleton, Wisconsin. After graduating from high school he worked for a few years in the textile mills and joined the U.S. military for two years. He was the first in his family to go on to higher education and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a bachelor’s degree in geography in 1968, the University of Iowa with a master’s degree in planning in 1970, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1974 with a doctoral degree in environmental planning and resource management. Bernhagen came to Mankato State University as a development officer in 1987. He also taught courses in the Urban and Regional Studies Institute for a few years before he retired in 2005. Bernhagen is married to Christine (Solberg) Bernhagen in 1967 and they have two children, Grant and Nissa. In this interview, Bernhagen talks about his family, his education, and his career at Minnesota State University Mankato in University Advancement and as a faculty member in the Urban and Regional Studies Institute.
