The Jamie Maag collection consists of a biographical form and an audio CD and transcript of an oral history interview conducted between Maag and Melissa Cornelius in October 2007. Maag attended Minnesota State University, Mankato from 2004-2008. In this interview, Maag talks about her experiences as a student at Minnesota State Mankato, including where she lived while attending college, where she worked, the hardest things about college, her plans after college, and technology in the classrooms.
This oral history interview was conducted as part of the Tell Your MSU Story Oral History Project conducted by the Southern Minnesota Historical Center at Minnesota State University, Mankato.
Jamie Maag was born April 2, 1983 in Long Beach, California. Maag attended Apple Valley High School in Apple Valley, Minnesota and graduated in 2001. After high school, Maag attended Normandale Community College in Bloomington, Minnesota where she completed her general education classes and received an associate degree. She began at Minnesota State University, Mankato in 2004 and majored in speech communications and minored in marketing. She graduated in May 2008 with a Bachelor of Science degree from the Department of Speech Communication.

This collection consists of the transcript, an audiocassette tape, and 1 CD duplicate of the audiocassette tape of an oral history interview with Harvey Lincoln Anderson, conducted in 1977. Anderson was the owner of Ski Haven, which later became Mount Kato. During the interview, Anderson talked about activities, businesses, and industries, in the Mankato area from his childhood until about 1940. He discussed specific activities like canoeing, downhill skiing, and ski jumping. Also, Anderson talked about his role in the construction of the Rapidan Dam.
Harvey Lincoln Andersen was born in Mankato, Minnesota in September 1893. He married Pauline Elizabeth Heggerness in 1927. They had two children together. The Andersens founded a ski area named Ski Haven during the winter of 1937. They operated the property for nearly forty years, until it was sold and renamed Mount Kato. Harvey Andersen died in February 1988.

This collection consisting of n Oral history interview (audiofile and transcript) relating to Ione Louk, of Mankato, Minnesota. Included in this collection are an outline done by Mrs. Louk, which discusses the 1933 Hormel Company strike. The other component of the collection is an oral history interview conducted with Ione in 1977. In it, she discusses her background and what led her to Mankato State University, where she became the first student to graduate with a minor in Women's Studies.
Ione Louk was born in September 1912, in Greenfield, Iowa. She married Harry E. Louk in 1935. They had six children together. When Harry Louk retired from the Hormel Company in Austin, Minnesota, they moved to Mankato. Ione Louk was the first student to graduate with a minor in Women's Studies at Mankato State University, in 1976. Ione Louk died in April 1984.

The Darwin R. Anthony collection consists of one CD, a transcript, and a biographical form and interview outline of an oral history interview conducted between Anthony and Evan Rusch in July 2007. In this interview, Anthony talks about his experiences as a student at Mankato State Teachers College, his family, and his career.
This oral history interview was conducted as part of the Tell Your MSU Story Oral History Project conducted by the Southern Minnesota Historical Center at Minnesota State University, Mankato.
Darwin Ross Anthony was born October 30, 1935 in Fairmont, Minnesota. He attended Mankato State Teachers College and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 1957. As a student, Anthony worked various part-time jobs in Mankato and played intramural softball as part of the Charley Worm Gang. He student taught in Springfield and ended up teaching full time for college credit. A professor of Anthony’s taught him to write essays and he went on to author three children’s books and numerous essays. For a time Anthony taught art, business, and industrial art. Anthony married Beverly Peterson Anthony in August 1958. They have 3 children.

The Melissa Cornelius collection consists of a biographical form and an audio CD and transcript of an oral history interview conducted between Cornelius and Jamie Maag in October 2007. Cornelius attended Minnesota State University, Mankato from 2005-2008. In this interview, Cornelius talks about why she chose to attend college and her college experience, where she lived while attending Minnesota State Mankato, organizations she was involved with, her normal school week, memorable faculty members, and her plans after graduation.

Melissa Cornelius was born Feb. 18, 1985 in Minnesota. She attended Maple Grove High School in Maple Grove, Minnesota and graduated in 2003. After high school, Cornelius attended North Hennepin Community College in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota from 2003 to 2005 where she completed the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum. Cornelius then attended Minnesota State University, Mankato from 2005 to 2008 where she majored in speech communications and minored in marketing. In May 2008, she received a Bachelor of Science degree from the Department of Speech Communication.

The Ronald R. Steinberg collection contains an audiocassette tape, a CD duplicate of the audiocassette and transcript of two interviews conducted between Steinberg, a foreign languages teacher at Mankato East High School in Mankato, Minnesota, and Mechthild Becker during November 1990. Steinberg discussed the continuities and changes that occurred in public education between 1960 and 1990. The Sylvan H. Thiesse collection consists of an audiocassette, transcript, and CD duplicate of the audiocassette of an interview conducted between Thiesse and David A. Thomas during November 1990. In the interview, Thiesse discussed the changes that have occurred within public education between 1950 and 1984. Primarily, Thiesse focused upon his experiences as a teacher and principal in Titonka, Iowa and his years teaching at Franklin Junior High School and at the local community college in the Mankato, Minnesota area.

The Willetta M. (Pinkie) Brown collection consists of an audiocassette, a CD duplicate of the audiocassette, and a transcript of an oral history interview conducted between Brown and Shirleen K. Sylvester during the spring of 1990. Brown worked as a physical education teacher from 1945 to 1985. The Philip C. Hall collection consists of audiocassette tape, CD duplicate of the audiocassette, and transcript of an oral history interview conducted between Hall and Deborah Overholtzer during the winter of 1991. Hall began worked as a physical education/health teacher and as the senior high counselor at Redwood Falls High School. His career in education began in 1954. In the interview, Hall discussed the changes and areas of continuity in the role of an educator for the period between 1954 and 1991. He focused on the changes in the expectations that parents have for teachers, and the changes that have occurred concerning the social expectations of students and their peers.

Jahnke during the winter of 1991. Goertzen worked as a home economics teacher at the middle school level in both Faribault and North Mankato, Minnesota. In the interview, she discussed the change and continuities that have occurred between 1953 and 1991. Goertzen focused on the name change her particular field of education, curriculum changes, and her participation in the 1975 Faribault teachers’ strike.

Bryan Schmid was born on October 16, 1988 in Fresno, California. He then moved to Menasha, Wisconsin where he attended Menasha High School and played football and graduated in 2007. He then decided to come MSU and play football where he was a defensive end and earn playing time in all 4 years at MSU. Bryan Schmid has been coaching the defensive line at MSU since 2010. Coach Schmid is married and now lives in Mankato with his family. Coach Schmid earned his bachelor’s degree from Minnesota State in Sport Management in 2010 and completed his master’s degree in Sport Management in 2013. During the interview he tried to provide a good overview of what MSU Football was all about and what the team’s daily life is like. He was able to give a very detailed description of how the football team works.

Michael William Bernarde was born on November 14, 1989 in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. Mr. Bernarde grew up in Sussex, Wisconsin and played football both on the offensive line and defensive line. Bernarde attended MSU Mankato as an undergrad from 2008-2012 and majored in History with a minor in coaching. During his undergrad Bernarde was a part of the MSU football team as an offensive lineman starting his junior and senior years. He began his coaching career in the spring of 2014 as the assistant offensive line coach and then took over as the tight ends coach in the spring of 2015.

Heim plays on the MSU football and has got playing time since his redshirt freshman year. Heim plays offensive line for the Mavericks. During the interview he tried to provide a good overview of what MSU Football was all about and what his daily life is like. He was able to give a very detailed description of how the football team acts.

Van Duyn during the fall of 1988. Lundheim worked as a foreign language teacher from 1952 to 1986. In the interview, she focused on the changes that occurred during her career as a librarian, English, and French teacher at Central High School in South Minneapolis between 1952 and 1982 when the school closed. Lundheim discussed the community around Central, teachers unions and strikes, administrators, foreign language teachers, and more broadly educational changes in terms of pedagogy, student behavior, and the expectations of teachers.
